New Corridors

Back in August last year, images of the Falcon's interior leaked onto the internet. At the time, I did a perspective match of one of the images, and noticed something interesting about the layout. From the leaked image, it was apparent to me that the production crew was following the exact same layout designed by Roger Christian on A New Hope, and Empire. The model of the interior I'd already built from production blueprints from the 70's and 80's fit perfectly. Except for a spare bit of corridor, that seemed to be a new addition to the interior we'd seen before .

Working with the perspective match, that spare bit of corridor seemed to fit at the end of the main ring of corridors, creating a T-intersection if you were to take a left after climbing the ramp into the Falcon.

just a few days ago, on May 4th, a video was released by Vanity Fair, covering a photoshoot in the interior of the new Falcon.

at the 13 second mark, I noticed a bit of corridor serving as a backdrop.

at first glance this looks like a view standing in the cockpit corridor, looking toward the main ring of corridors, much like this shot from the new trailer, with BB-8

but notice that in the first shot, the ladderway, which would be visible if this were the same area, is missing.

I'm feeling pretty confident at this point, that what we're seeing is the new corridor I speculated about back in August.

This is a model of the corridor layout as it seems to be from what we've seen so far. I can't wait to see if I'm right, and to get to see more never-before seen interior spaces of the Falcon!

"Go strap yourselves in...

...I'm going to make the jump to light-speed."

finally tracked down the buckles used for the crash-couch in the main hold. Well, at least a buckle that's close enough.

"Good against remotes, that's one thing...

Good against the living... that's something else."

Had to build this guy to hang out in the Falcon's main hold. I've been putting this one off for a long, long time. Once I finally got to building, it went very quickly. I'm here to tell you, "cease the day" and all that...

Definitive Millennium Falcon Interior (part 3)

just more details, of course.

plus a whole new cockpit...

somewhere between the concept of "there's always more to do" and the fact that I keep starting over from scratch, is me realizing that I'm never going to be finished...

and still more nav console details

Definitive Millennium Falcon Interior

Well... here we go again. My first model of the New Hope interior of the Falcon was made waaaay back when I was just learning sketchup. It is a mess, to say the least. So, armed with new skills and knowledge (and a fair amount of time borrowed from somewhere) I've started an all new model of the interior.

Starting with a photomatch, and working my way from there, this is as far as I've come.

my goal is to make a model that, when rendered, is indistinguishable from what we see on screen in A New Hope... no sweat, right?

and just for the sake of bragging, here is the geometry of the model overlaid with the perspective matched photo of the real set.

Further updates. more junk for everybody!

Full Scale Falcon Basic Structure

If you haven't heard about the Full Scale Falcon Project, you should head over to this link now
Fullscalefalcon.com

I have the dubious honor of being the guy who figures out how the famously impossible interior of the Millennium Falcon could work in reality. Over the holiday weekend, I came a hell of lot closer.

This is pretty much the final layout, designed at 1:1 scale, of the planned Falcon.

next step, structural engineering to make sure this baby would hold together...

be sure to watch the video flythrough of the interior space, at the bottom of the page!

Linear Falcon Interior

This drawing was done by Production Designer John Barry, as a proposed interior to the Millennium Falcon (then known as the "Pirate Ship")

Here's my take on that.

Ralph McQuarrie Millennium Falcon (part 3)

Based on these three drawings by Joe Johnston, I've started working on an interior of the McQuarrie Falcon.

And here are some cross sections of what I came up with.

and some renders

As far as a "what might have been" look at the interior of the Falcon, it's actually not bad at all. In fact, it seems like it might have been far more versatile as a movie set, allowing for a much greater number of camera angles.

Millennium Falcon Interior

I've been working on this model for several years now, and just recently I added the grime to the main crash couch. Here are some renders.
