It also looked like the escape pod clipped through the landing gear well. So it might be doubly WTF. It was actually one of the three things that bothered me about the entire movie (the others being that Luke would not have called him Sidious as he did not know him by that name and that Yoda's CGI glow was plastic-like in some views).
Interesting! I like the idea of the short round corridor... could explain why there's a round doorway by Luke's head when he's in the bunk in ESB (http://caps.pictures/198/0-starwars5/full/star-wars5-movie-screencaps.com-13715.jpg) maybe there are multiple hallways that branch off of the doughnut like the cockpit does! Excellent work as always!
I've only seen the movie twice, but I seem to recall that you could see the main hold and the chess table in the background when Chewie helps Rey into the pod. Then it could come out from the corridor between the dish and the port airlock. But is there enough vertical space to house it there? And that's one twisty trip from there to the back of the starboard landing gear bay where you get spat out. Can it even go through there? Why is this so important to me?
Very interesting I have actually been thinking about this myself. I tweeted pablo a while back and he responded with something along the lines of it not being seen in any of the cross sections and such so I did a bit of my own rather simple detective work and think I figured out where the room goes. I've circled my buess guess in red going off of where the pod launches from and so on. https://screenshot.net/936wwfv
